My son, Braxton, was born with a different brain. He is almost a year old and has already been through more than many adults: two surgeries (to remove cataracts from both his eyes, and to insert a feeding tube), MRIs and EEGs and Xrays, he needs oxygen at night, and has tried ten different anti-convulsant medications and a special ketogenic diet but still has 20-50 seizures a day, and is functionally blind. All of this has delayed his development. He is still like a newborn in most ways. The big thing that we have found that helps is water therapy. Braxton normally can’t hold his head up or sit on his own, but with the buoyancy of water and with a flotation ring, he can move his body! In water he can exercise his muscles so that he might be able to move on his own eventually.
Braxton can't easily swim in public pools for risk of being over stimulated by the lights and sounds which gives him seizures. He is still tiny, so we need warmer water that only a couple pools in Calgary offer. Our town doesn't have a pool of its own. We are purchasing a pool for our home where Braxton could swim in peace and any time of the day. We are raising funds to purchase a swim spa. ZIN™ members Ellis and Elly van Schuur are organizing a Zumbathon in honor of Braxton (Bubbe) Lockie and our family. The funds raises at the Zumbathon will go towards the purchase of the pool for Braxton.

Braxton would like us to wear something green as this is his favorite color! And if you don't have anything green to wear you are in luck, as we are selling "for the love of Bubbe" tshirts with a purple epilepsy ribbon for $15. If you would like one email firstname.lastname@example.org
